The New Deal I.S.D. is committed to the development of educational programs designed to challenge the students to achieve their highest potential, therefore enabling them to become contributing and productive members of society.  As stated in the mission statement of New Deal I.S.D., "It is the mission of New Deal I.S.D. to ensure maximum student achievement be instilling an attitude of mutual respect.   ...Mutual respect does not imply that the one individual is 'the same as' another; each has important differences, but each is of equal worth as a human being."  Because the nature of gifted and talented students dictates an education that differs in the quality of experiences provided for them in the regular school program, the district recognizes that special provision must be made for them to be stimulated and challenged to maximum achievement.

The New Deal I.S.D defines gifted and talented students as those, "...who perform at or show the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment."  (Ch. 29.121 Texas Education Code.)  Gifted and talented students are found in all cultures, socioeconomic groups and environments.  The New Deal I.S.D will serve the needs of those students who exhibit high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area as identified through multiple and specific criteria.
