Program
Objectives
-
Utilize
a differentiated program which will meet the diversified, unique needs
of identified gifted and talented students.
-
Use
an appropriate model and maintain a comprehensive program by using
all available information concerning the philosophy, needs,
purposes, methodologies, and structures.
-
Assure
all students equal opportunity to be screened and identified as
talented/gifted and to be placed in appropriate programs that meet
their unique needs and requirements.

Develop
a valid identification process, using multiple and specific criteria,
to identify the talented/gifted students n the grade levels under
consideration.

Screen
and select through the prescribed procedures those students identified
as talented/gifted.

Set
up a personal information file on students who are both considered
and selected for the program.

To
help participating talented/gifted students gain a realistic and healthy
concept of themselves, their strengths, weaknesses, potentialities,
and a positive attitude toward self-improvement.

Provide
opportunities for the talented/gifted staff to confer with
students and parents.

Provide
activities for self-discovery and evaluation.
-
Provide
opportunities for talented/gifted student to share their expertise
in a leadership roe with other students and community groups.

Develop
within talented/gifted students a desire for excellence and a
sense of responsibility to the school community and to a changing society.

Provide
a learning environment which will develop skills in higher orders or
intellectual activity such as originality, flexibility, creative
thinking, and abstract reasoning.

Develop
the skills for initiating, planning, and conducting independent
research.

Allow
students to accept a guided responsibility for determining and
planning their course of study and investigation.

Expose
students to wider intellectual horizons which can be pursued
throughout their learning careers.

Utilize
the cultural, instructional, and industrial resources of the
region.

Provide
for staff and community understanding of and involvement in the status
and operation of the talented/gifted program.

Provide
effective ongoing staff training activities for the district
personnel.

Keep
the public will-informed about the talented/gifted program.

Provide
ongoing evaluations for continuation of the talented/gifted program in
terms of student progress and program administration.

Utilize
staff and parental input concerning overall program effectiveness
to institute necessary changes.
