Program Design
All talented and gifted students shall be
served in the following lest of program prototypes that have been used by various
other schools. New Deal I.S.D. will use the type that is compatible
with the school, considering abilities and limitation, and if it is in the
best interest of the student.
- Resource Room
In the resource room the talented/gifted students will be provided
materials and resources needed to pursue independent studies and work
with other talented/gifted students. The amount of time each
student will spend in the resource room will be flexible and will be determined
by the building facilitator and the campus steering committee.
- Independent Study
Students will pursue a research topic of his/her choice and will be
supervised by the building facilitator and/or classroom teacher.
- Resource Room
Building facilitator will search for and keep a file of resource
people available for student use. Students will be encouraged to
seek out resource people on their own. Resource people will help
provide specialized information for in-depth studies.
- Subject Area Enrichment
Identified talented and gifted will be assigned to a regular credit
class with materials and resources selected to enrich basic and
higher-level thinking skills.
- Pre-AP and AP
Curriculum designed to prepare students for college entrance and
success, which will include higher-level thinking skills and
additional assignments aimed at preparing students for upper level
courses.
- Concurrent Courses
Students must pass the TASP or equivalent in order to enroll in these
courses. Students can receive college credit upon successful
completion of the course(s).
- Talent Pool
Students in Kindergarten and First Grade, who are identified as having
gifted qualities, may be served by a G/T teacher in a resource room or
regular classroom in an interdisciplinary curriculum.
