Program Design

All talented and gifted students shall be served in the following lest of program prototypes that have been used by various other schools.  New Deal I.S.D. will use the type that is compatible with the school, considering abilities and limitation, and if it is in the best interest of the student.

  1. Resource Room
In the resource room the talented/gifted students will be provided materials and resources needed to pursue independent studies and work with other talented/gifted students.  The amount of time each student will spend in the resource room will be flexible and will be determined by the building
facilitator and the campus steering committee.
  2. Independent Study
Students will pursue a research topic of his/her choice and will be supervised by the building facilitator and/or classroom teacher.
  3. Resource Room
Building facilitator will search for and keep a file of resource people available for student use.  Students will be encouraged to seek out resource people on their own.  Resource people will help provide specialized information for in-depth studies.
  4. Subject Area Enrichment
Identified talented and gifted will be assigned to a regular credit class with materials and resources selected to enrich basic and higher-level thinking skills.
  5. Pre-AP and AP
Curriculum designed to prepare students for college entrance and success, which will include higher-level thinking skills and additional assignments aimed at preparing students for upper level courses.
  6. Concurrent Courses
Students must pass the TASP or equivalent in order to enroll in these courses.  Students can receive college credit upon successful completion of the course(s).
  7. Talent Pool
Students in Kindergarten and First Grade, who are identified as having gifted qualities, may be served by a G/T teacher in a resource room or regular classroom in an interdisciplinary curriculum.
